Tasos Avrantinis
Tasos Avrantinis was born in 1969 and hails from Paralio Astros, Arcadia. He is an attorney specializing in mergers, acquisitions, corporate restructuring, and tax law. Avrantinis is currently the President of the Institute for Fiscal Studies. Previously, he served as Vice President of the political party “Drassi.” He was also a founding member of the Liberal Forum (1991), a member of the Central Committee of ONNED (1991-1995), and Vice President of various organizations, including Citizen Defense (1998) and the Liberal Party (1999).
In 2010, he was elected to the Athens City Council under Mayor Giorgos Kaminis and served as Deputy Mayor for Municipal Police and Urban Planning and Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Municipality of Athens until February 2012. In October 2014, he represented real estate owners before the Plenary of the Council of State, successfully challenging excessive property taxation and securing landmark decisions aligning taxable values with market values.
In the 2015 national elections, after Drassi’s collaboration with the Potami party, he ran as a parliamentary candidate for Potami in Piraeus and Islands. Since May 2017, he has served on the New Democracy party’s Action Team, addressing barriers to entrepreneurship, attracting investment, and enhancing the extroversion of small and medium-sized enterprises. His research interests include economic analysis of institutions, individual rights, taxation, and environmental issues. He is also the author of “Education: Free Choice or a Cat That Barks” (Athens Review of Books, 2016) and has contributed to various collective volumes.
