George Bitros is an Emeritus Professor at the Athens University of Economics and Business. He completed his undergraduate studies at ASOEE (1963) and his Ph.D. in Economics at New York University (1973). After working in academia and research in the U.S., he returned to Greece in 1976, serving as a Scientific Associate in the Bank of Greece’s Research Department until 1979. He has published extensively in top international journals and contributed over 500 articles to Greek publications. Bitros has also been a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and has served on various advisory boards and councils.

His research focuses on real capital theory, including investment and the role of values and institutions in economic development. His most recent book was published in 2024 by Epikentro.
